What Will I Wear? - #2

Convergence is now six weeks away, so I figure it's time for a preparedness update.

I did not have a hotel room reserved, and they just left me in limbo about it for months.  I still haven't heard back.  Not really happy about that.  I was able to get a room a fifteen minute walk away.

As for my Rumpelstiltskin costume, I've had a heck of a time.  I found a vest that was decent for the character, and looked great, but they had sold out, and canceled my order.  The only place in town I was aware of that rented period costumes closed, so a rental is out.  I had to scavenge a bit, but ended up saving some money in the process.  Here's what I came up with.

The waistcoat was the hard part, but I knew that going into it.  When I couldn't find one, I thought I'd have one made by adding the collar to a vest, but I couldn't find any seamstress interested, even though it seemed super easy.  I finally made myself one out of paper towel to prove to myself that it was as easy as I thought it would be, and decided to be my own seemster with no experience.  The vest is on it's way, and I plan to attach a high collar (basically just a rectangular piece of fabric) once it arrives.  As an added bonus, I can detach the collar when I'm done, and add the vest to my wardrobe.
$28.99 - Paisley Tuxedo Vest - Banana

I did order those side lace pants, but I didn't like them, and sent them back.  I'll just wear normal dress pants that I already own.  I might tuck them in and add fake tops to a pair of boots if it's as easy as I think it will be.

I found it surprisingly hard to find a frilly shirt that isn't black or white, but is a color that exist in nature.  I think this one works.
$42.34 - Pirate Shirt - Gold

As for makeup, I'm sure I want to use a metallic Mehron facepaint.  Their gold is probably too gold, but I'm not sure their bronze star will be gold enough.  I decided to start with the bronze star, and go from there.  I think makeup with some barrier might work on the nails, but I might need some dollar store nail polish if not.
$09.93 - Mehron Face Paint - Bronze Star (Metallic)
$02.64 - CoverGirl Eye Liner - Black
$08.99 - Mehron Barrier Spray

I found a really nice wig for $9.  His hair is pretty shaggy, so it shouldn't take a lot of skill to trim it.  My mother tells me that leaving it braided for a while will add the waves to it.
$08.99 - Wig - Light Brown

And I went for the prescription contacts.  His eyes vary from very gold to almost black.  My eyes are dark enough that I could probably have gotten away with his dark eyed look without any help, but since I need contacts to get rid of my glasses, I figured I might as well get the gold ones.
$34.90 - Prescription Theatrical Contacts - Gold

And the total is $136.78.  Not too shabby, since my goal was $200.  I will need to pick up a couple of odds and ends, like the fabric for my collar.  I don't expect to go over $150 though, so I'm pretty happy.  I'll be sure to take pictures of the finished product.
